Building Production-Grade MySQL in Kubernetes
During this talk we will cover a series of challenges and the solutions we used to bring production-grade MySQL to Kubernetes with the Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC). This includes a brief overview of Kubernetes terminology and the roles certain primitives play, and how we utilized these alongside capabilities specific to PXC and ProxySQL to solve the unique challenges of running a stateful application like MySQL within the confines of the container ecosystem. Finally, we will go over the current state of our development efforts and what our future plans are for enhancing MySQL in the space, with a brief demo of our Operator in action.
Tyler Duzan joined Percona in 2017 as a Product Manager and has lead their MySQL software and Cloud technology initiatives since, including the recent GA launch of Percona’s Kubernetes Operators for their Percona Server for MongoDB and Percona XtraDB Cluster database server products. Prior to joining Percona, Tyler spent more than 13 years in operations and security engineering roles across several industry verticals, including as a senior operations engineer at a major cloud provider.
During Tyler’s career he’s talked at numerous conferences, been quoted in articles from DevOps.com, DZone, and other publications, and has contributed significantly behind the scenes to the OpenStack and OpenCompute projects.
